These installations were created to deal with the issues of the danger and disgust of viruses and blood cells . My creation of `Virus 1,2,3,4 may of trivialised the nature of these organisms this is only because of the contradiction that is created between death and beauty - magnified viruses are beautiful but deadly. The scientists who battle to understand and eradicate these diseases use candy coloured dyes and stains to help them identify virus cells. . This can mask our fear and disgust of disease.
`Cell Infection` was the first installation I created for this theme of works agar agar gel impregnated with blood was injected into the cells of the sheet of bubble wrap which cultivated bacteria creating a disgusting substance, despite the attractive appearance of the bubble wrap the nature of its creation is less attractive.
`Blood is the Wire` and `Caught an infection` dealt with the dangers of viruses and infected cells if their boundaries are touched or crossed and their ability to incubate and transmit harmful diseases. This begins to question the vulnerability and fragility of the human body. The concept of man made dyes led me to look at man made boundaries of razor and barbed wire deliberately designed to trap and inflict the maximum amount of damage to what ever comes into contact with it intentionally or unintentionally.
